Privacy Policy for Kustomly: Product Personalizer
This Privacy Policy describes how Sellerportals ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information in connection with the Kustomly: Product Personalizer application (the "App") for Shopify.
By installing or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Purpose of the App
The App enables merchants to display product personalization questions on their Shopify storefront and to capture the buyer's answers as order line-item properties. The App reads personalization data that has been saved to each product and renders it to shoppers at the point of purchase. The App does not import products or listings itself.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Merchant and Store Information
When a merchant installs the App, we may access limited store information provided by Shopify, including:
- Store name
- Store URL (myshopify domain)
- Store email address
- Shopify account and shop identifiers
- Store settings related to theme and product display
2.2 Product and Personalization Information
To render personalization questions on the storefront, the App reads product-level personalization data stored on each product as a Shopify metafield, such as:
- Whether a product is personalizable
- Personalization question text, type, and instructions
- Whether a question is required
- Character and file-upload limits
- Dropdown option labels and identifiers
2.3 App Configuration Data
The App stores per-shop configuration that the merchant controls, including whether the personalization block is enabled, the block heading text, and whether required answers are enforced.
2.4 Buyer-Provided Personalization Answers
When a shopper completes a personalization question (such as text, a dropdown selection, or an uploaded file), their answers are submitted to Shopify and stored as line-item properties on the resulting cart and order. We may also collect, process, or store these answers and related order or customer information in order to provide, support, and improve the App's features.
3. How We Use the Information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide and operate the App
- Render personalization questions on the merchant's storefront
- Save and apply the merchant's App settings
- Authenticate merchant accounts and secure App sessions
- Provide customer support
- Detect technical issues or misuse
- Improve the performance and reliability of our services
We do not sell merchant or customer data, and we do not use it for advertising.
4. Access to Data Within Our Organization
Access to merchant and store data within Sellerportals is limited to authorized personnel who require it to operate or support the App, on a strict need-to-know basis.
5. Third-Party Service Providers
We may use trusted third-party services to help operate the App, such as:
- Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers
- Database hosting providers
- Customer support platforms
These providers are required to maintain appropriate security standards and may only process data as necessary to deliver their services to us.
6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Our website and embedded App admin may use cookies or similar technologies to:
- Maintain secure, authenticated sessions
- Improve user experience
- Analyze application performance and usage patterns
7. Data Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational safeguards to protect information. These include:
- Encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections
- Encryption of stored session credentials
- Secure, signed API and App Proxy integrations
- Restricted internal access controls
- Infrastructure monitoring and security updates
8. Data Retention
We retain merchant and store data only for as long as the App is installed and as necessary to provide the App and comply with our legal obligations. When the App is uninstalled, associated session and configuration data are removed in accordance with our data-handling practices and Shopify's requirements.
9. International Data Transfers
Because our services operate globally, data may be processed or stored in different countries where our infrastructure or service providers operate. Where required, such transfers are conducted in compliance with applicable data protection laws.
10. Your Data Protection Rights
Depending on your location (including the EEA, UK, and similar jurisdictions), you may have the right to request access to, correction of, restriction of, objection to, or erasure of personal data. Requests relating to order or customer data should generally be directed to the merchant (store owner), who acts as the data controller for that information; we will assist merchants in responding to such requests as their data processor.
11. Roles and Merchant Responsibilities
Merchants act as the data controller for their store and customer data, and Sellerportals acts as a data processor on the merchant's behalf. Merchants are responsible for ensuring their use of the App, including the personalization questions they display and the buyer data they collect, complies with applicable laws and marketplace policies, and for providing any required notices to their customers.
12. Shopify Protected Customer Data Compliance
Sellerportals complies with Shopify's Protected Customer Data requirements. We access and process customer personal information only as needed to provide and improve the App, and we apply appropriate safeguards to protect it.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices, legal obligations, or service features. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
